In modern times, the brushed effect is typically achieved using a machine, which is sometimes equipped with brushes of different strengths and thicknesses depending on the desired outcome. From this process, the surface of each board gains extra definition, texture and character, giving a fully authentic look and feel.

Brushed flooring is most commonly finished off with an oil to give a floor rich with natural variation which also has an element of protection to ensure that it withstands normal levels of footfall. For those looking for the natural texture of the brushed finish but with more of a glossy appearance, then we would recommend you consider a lacquered finish.

Brushed engineered wood flooring can be installed in living spaces, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways, but we would recommend that you avoid areas such as bathrooms where there is a high risk of exposure to moisture.

From a maintenance perspective, then in the short term, regular sweeping and dry-mopping will keep your flooring in the best possible condition. Looking slightly longer term, whilst it’s possible to sand and refinish wood flooring, you would lose much if not all of the brushed effect should you opt to sand the boards down. The brushing process is not easy to replicate, particularly without the help of qualified flooring professionals.
