When you’ve invested in a great new floor, the last thing you want is for it to get damaged or worn out. In a busy home, it’s easy to see how floors can be neglected and end up a bit worse for wear. Protect your new flooring with our top tips to keep it looking flawless!

Furniture Pads

Consider adding furniture pads under chair and table legs to avoid them scuffing the surface or causing indentations over time.

Take your shoes off!

It is wise to take your shoes off at the door – this will prevent any excess dirt from under your shoes from being walked through the home.

Draw the curtains

Solid wood flooring and can be prone to sun damage if exposed to excess light. To protect the colour of your floor, draw the curtains on particularly sunny days.

Add a rug

Rugs offer style, comfort, warmth and protection to any floor! Placed under furniture, a rug can prevent scuffing and pressure damage. While a rug in the centre of the room will prevent damage from footfall.

Hoover & sweep

Regularly hoovering and sweeping with a soft brush will lift any loose dirt and dust. This will prevent scratches and keep your floor looking spotless.

Mop

All types of flooring should be cleaned with a damp (but not wet!) mop and an approved cleaner. If in doubt, always check with the flooring supplier to see which solutions are best to use.

Wipe up spills

Food and beverage spills left on flooring can cause permanent damage and stains. Ensure you wipe spills up as quickly as possible to avoid this kind of damage.

Trim those claws

Your furry friends can wreak havoc with your new floors! Keep their claws nice and trim to avoid scratches on the floors surface, and vacuum regularly to remove excess pet hair.

Keep extra pieces

One of the advantages to flooring like carpet tiles is that if one piece becomes damaged or stained, it can be easily removed and replaced. This can also work for other types of flooring; however, installation may be a bit trickier. Always contact a specialist if you are unsure.

Avoid humidity

To avoid your floor warping and moving drastically over time, it is important to control the humidity in your home. If you find you home is becoming excessively humid, invest in a de- humidifier to quickly fix the issue.

From engineered wood to carpet tiles, each flooring has its own unique characteristics and needs. The steps above apply to most types of flooring, but if in doubt take a look at our flooring guides or speak to one of our specialists.
